Time is sure flying by! This past week I taught Social Studies, spelling, lead morning meetings, and jumped in at times with reading and writing. Our Social Studies unit is on “Now and Then” and how society has changed over the years regarding objects, people, clothing, etc. One of the introductions to my lessons was having the students guess what items were while looking at pictures from the 1960’s. They really enjoyed it and it got them thinking about the changes in objects. It was Wacky Wednesday- dress like your favorite book character! Since our reading and writing until is on fairy tales the 2nd grade team dressed as princess and wore pink crowns all day! It was great to participate in Wacky Wednesday and be a part of it with the students. On Friday, we did a Readers Theatre and they loved it. They got so into it as they were making props, set up a stage, and really got into character. Each day I learn so much about teaching and how I can become a better teacher. My students challenge me to be a better teacher every day. As Friday was National Wear Red Day for heart health I remembered I didn’t have a red shirt, so I texted my friends and borrowed one! Many of the students wore red. I have started going to Zumba every Monday and Wednesday. Who doesn’t love Zumba and even better it’s free! But I sure do need to learn how to move like the Tico’s. My food has been amazing! I haven’t had one meal that I did not like. But it has been a lot of rice and beans but no complaints there. I’ve had a good variety of food ranging from typical Costa Rican dishes, pasta, salad, rice and beans, pancakes, French toast, eggs, and sandwiches. Over the weekend, I went to the Britt coffee plantation and went on a tour. I learned so much about coffee and how it’s made. The tour was very interesting, and boy did I get my fair share of coffee! They also had a butterfly garden that was neat to see so many different butterflies. Then Sunday, I went to the market and my friend’s house and laid out at her pool. It was a nice relaxing day. As for the Super Bowl, I found it on my tv in my room, so I just watched it there and made myself a nice peanut butter sandwich with strawberries. I have made so many great friends here. I can’t believe my time here is almost up and I am taking in every moment. And to make everything all better I received a card from home! My mentor said I got mail and I was very surprised! It was a nice surprise to my week :) That’s all for now, stay tuned!
