What another great week it has been! This week I taught two science lesson that I planned. We started a new unit on Slow and Fast Changes on Earth. I really enjoyed teaching them. Throughout the week I helped plan for the next week and share my ideas. I can really see that teaching is definitely for me! I love being in the classroom and teaching on the spot. The teaching is very hands on for the students with a 5-10 minute lesson and then the students applying what they learned to their work. Our reading and writing unit is on Fairy Tales. Each day they can either add to their fairy tale or create a new one. They stories they have created are so interesting as some have taken known fairy tales and made it their own or they have created their own fairy tale. I love having them read their stories to me as make them come to life through their reading. Seeing them apply their learning in their own work shows their ownership and pride. On Thursday, my teacher wasn't able to be their for the morning so I taught her lessons in the morning and the school counselor sat in to make sure everything went well! Then in the afternoon I taught my science lesson, so I taught all day! It was a great experience and I can't wait to be teaching all day. Everyday my students teach me so much about teaching and how I can be a better teacher. On Saturday I hiked Pico Blanco in Escazu. My friend Emilee and I went and we hiked about 8 miles. It was absolutely breathtaking and from the we could see multiple towns. The picture is from the top of the mountain. On the way up we were hiking through the forest and at times were crawling up the mud. On the way down we were rock climbing and hiking through a field. It is crazy how it was the same mountain but so different. On the way down, we got lost and ended up in someones back yard. So not knowing Spanish I was freaking out but Emilee told them what happened and the family laughed at us! We jumped their fence and continued down the road. Today, I went hiking again with some more friends. We were going to go to the Volcano Irazu but there was a lot of traffic so we turned around. We stopped at this place that had trails and decided to hike it. We hiked up a decent amount only to realize we took a wrong turn so down we went. Once we found the right spot we hiked to a beautiful waterfall. It was an adventure to get there- jumping over the river, climbing over landslides, and walking across tiny bridges. Teacher moment- as we were hiking to the waterfall, I noticed that there were some landslides so of course I got all excited I am teaching my students about landslides. I took many pictures of it and I can't wait to show them tomorrow! It was worth it in the end. The waterfall was gorgeous! After two days of hiking my legs are crazy sore and my body is very tired. But that only means I had a great week weekend. Now I need to get ready for another great week of teaching!
